Working on a damaged nail bed can cause multiple issues, including loss of the nail or toe. Working on a damaged nail bed is also against board guidelines.

There's no telling what products were used when creating your previous set. Particular products do not bond well together, and sometimes together can cause an infection. The most commonly used products I've come across when soaking off someone else's work is MMA acrylic (vs EMA) and clients not know they have gel x nails and wanting an acrylic fill in. To protect the quality of my own work, I have to be certain of the previous products and prep used, and the only way to know is to remove it.
