Unfortunately, some other nail techs cut corners and costs. More than half of the acrylic I soak off from someone else's work is MMA acrylic instead of EMA acrylic. MMA acrylic is illegal to use in the US, it is difficult to remove (mostly why people will pop off the old nail instead of soaking off), has a fishy oder and slimy texture when soaking off and can cause permanent damage to the nail bed.  To get that perfect shape it is sometimes difficult when the original shape of the person that last worked on you is of poor structure. Lastly MMA acrylic and EMA acrylic do not bond well to each other. The only way to find out is to remove it
